Desktop Video Conference

BestVideo is an audio/video conference application with bandwidth adaptation and NAT traversal. Main features are:
  • Presence and call establishment using the open standard XMPP messaging protocol
  • NAT traversal using the NICE protocol
  • Real-time adaptation to network available bandwidth with the BEST transport protocol (based on granted US patents)
  • Audio and video are encoded using Speex and VP8 codecs 
  • Video resolutions from 240p up to High Definition (HD) and Full HD

Note: this builds are alpha versions. Report any issue using the "Comments" form below.

Software installation

  • Windows:
    • download and run the setup executable
    • follow the setup wizard
    • launch the installed BestVideo application
  • Linux:
    • decompress the archive
    • launch the best-video executable
  • register a new account clicking on the "Register" button
  • click on the activation link sent by email
  • login with the registered username/password

Settings

Before you start to use BestVideo some simple settings can be modified by clicking on the "Settings" button.

Video settings

  • Select the webcam in the "Video source" combobox (if not detected click on "Scan" button)
  • Select the webcam Resolution
  • Select the webcam framerate (FPS)
  • To check if your webcam is working properly click on "Test webcam" button

Audio settings

  • Select the desired microphone and output audio levels.
  • To check the microphone click on "Test mic" button.
  • To check the output audio level click on "Test sound" button

Call settings

  • Check "Auto response" if you want to automatically answer to incoming calls.
  • Select the maximum Screen resolution you willing to receive.
  • Select the Call quality preset (you can change it on-fly during the call)

Adding a contact

You can add a new buddy on the contact list by clicking on "Add contact" button.

Calling a contact

Now you can call a contact of your contact list by selecting the user name and clicking on the "Call" button.
